Share the Dates: an iftar maths game
Share the Dates is a maths game set at iftar: drag dates onto the friends' plates to give each one the right number or to share them fairly. Every date is counted aloud in English and Arabic.
Teacher review under way.
How to play
- 1Listen to Noori: “Give Camel 3 dates!”.
- 2Drag a date to a plate — or tap a plate to send it one date. Too many on a plate? Tap one of its dates to put it back in the basket.
- 3Press the tick when you think it's right; Noori counts with you.
- 4Harder levels: share fairly, compare plates, then add and take away.
What your child learns
- Counting out an exact number (one-to-one correspondence)
- Fair sharing — equal groups, an early step towards division
- More and less, adding and taking away within 10
For grown-ups
At your next meal, ask your child to share something fairly — grapes, dates or crackers — and count it out together. It is a natural moment to talk about generosity and giving.
